You're a rational, caring person -- right?
As such, it's only natural for you to believe that raising taxes on the wealthy would be a good way to help the poor -- right?
On the surface, wealth redistribution sounds like a good idea, but on closer examination, it makes no sense at all.
Reality Check:
- Revenues from the proposed tax increase on the top 1% will last less than ONE DAY at the current rate of government spending in the U.S. -- so where will the money come from to support the poor on Day 2, and Day 3 and all the rest of the days of the year? More taxes? From whom? Who will be left to support the needs of society?
- If you think you're immune to this ponzi scheme, think again: there will always be people who are poorer than you. At what point will it become YOUR TURN to start supporting those with less? The government will just keep reaching deeper and deeper into the well until it's dry. And then what? Who will be left to support the needs of society?
- What happens when the wealthiest among us are so over-taxed they move away, quit producing and hiring, or no longer have the disposable income to buy the goods and services YOU provide? Who will be left to support the needs of society?
The Truth is a Lonely Place
On what planet does it make sense to "cure poverty" by creating more poor people? And on what planet does it make sense to punish success in order to reward mediocrity, laziness, failure and/or incompetence?Hopefully not this one.
Next time someone starts spouting off about the rich paying their fair share, ask them one simple question: How exactly will it help the economy?
I defy them to come up with a single plausible answer.
